You're cordially invited to Larry’s Artist Talk, "In Pursuit of the 'Largemouth Bassoon off the Hook, "Thursday, October 27, 5-6:30 pm. He will share the CREATIVE JOURNEY & INSPIRATION behind his most ambitious sculpture to date, currently making its debut in Art Center Morro Bay’s front window. It welcomes guests to the group exhibit “Faces of the Central Coast” with diverse artwork, on view daily through Monday, November 7, 2022. BRING your questions & curiosity when the Los Osos artist will share stories, photos, video & humor to describe how he originally began including musical instruments in his fused glass artwork, leading to his current large Bass/Bassoon sculpture. LEARN firsthand how Larry transformed offbeat materials & a donated non-functional bassoon month-by-month for over a year, imagining & engineering his way to a huge LED-lit freshwater creature. It’s a whimsical sculpture, with serious materials & craftsmanship. The TITLE is a nod to the funny connection of a bass & a bassoon. His Artist Talk will reveal how he built a wooden armature, then added layers of paper mache, wire, gold leaf, nylon mesh, vinyl tubing, & bike chain accents, with 24-hr. LED lights & a fused glass head. Guests are returning with friends & family, & driving by at night to see “Largemouth Bassoon off the Hook” illuminated.
